The Resilience of Lincoln Heights in the Face of Hate:

Hate Arrived at the Doorstep of a Resilient Village

On the afternoon of February 7, 2025, a group of individuals affiliated with a known Neo-Nazi organization arrived in Lincoln Heights, Ohio. They parked near residential areas and just blocks away from the elementary school, and paraded their hate flags just yards away from the elderly and disabled community, and they were armed with guns, as well as wearing face masks and riot gear. Their presence was met with concern, fear and outrage, as Lincoln Heights has always been a community known for its resilience and determination to stand against those outsiders who seek to cause harm to the people.

The Lincoln Heights Ohio Historical Society was founded to preserve and promote the positive legacy of the village. This event, while deeply troubling, is now part of that history. However, what must be remembered is not only the presence of hate but the strength of the people who stood against it.

A Community That Stands Together

Lincoln Heights residents have historically defended their community against discrimination, injustice, and systemic challenges. This was no different. Rather than responding with fear, community members quickly mobilized to document the event, protect one another, and ensure that their voices were heard.

Residents arrived in numbers to peacefully counteract the presence of hate. Families and individuals came together to make it clear that Lincoln Heights would not be intimidated. This was not the first time that the village had faced outside forces attempting to undermine its strength, and as always, the people responded with unity and determination.

Concerns Over Police Response

While residents gathered in opposition to the hate group, the actions of the responding Police Departments raised serious concerns. Rather than dispersing the individuals responsible for the racial intimidation, officers escorted and protected them, and later assisted in their departure. For many, this reinforced the longstanding issue of selective law enforcement and unequal protection under the law.

Lincoln Heights residents and supporters are now demanding accountability. This includes calls for transparency regarding why the hate group was allowed to gather near homes and schools, why law enforcement aided in their movements, and what steps will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Historical Context and the Strength of Lincoln Heights

Lincoln Heights holds a unique place in Ohio’s history. As one of the first self-governed Black communities in the state, it has faced decades of systemic challenges. From being denied annexation to Cincinnati, to fighting for proper infrastructure, to standing against racist policies, Lincoln Heights has always been defined by resilience.

This event is another chapter in that history, not one that defines the village as a place of victimization, but as a place where people stand firm in the face of adversity.

Moving Forward

This moment will not be forgotten, but it will also not overshadow the true story of Lincoln Heights. The community has taken steps to ensure that this event is documented accurately. Testimonies, photographs, and media coverage will be preserved so that future generations understand both what happened and how Lincoln Heights responded.

The Lincoln Heights Ohio Historical Society will continue its mission to uplift and preserve the village’s history. This includes advocating for policies that protect residents, educating others on the ongoing impact of systemic discrimination, and ensuring that incidents like this are not buried but acknowledged as part of a broader struggle for justice.

Conclusion

The events of February 7, 2025, serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges that continue to target Black Americans. But more importantly, they shine a light on the unwavering spirit of Lincoln Heights. Hate came to the village, and the people stood tall. The people stepped forward and protected the peace and safety of their community. Together, the village responded with unity, strength, and an unshakable commitment to ensuring Lincoln Heights remains a place of pride, protection, and resilience.
